This collaboration between ASE (Association for Science
Education) and NASEN (National Association for Special
Educational Needs) was established to provide support
for teachers and others working with students with special
educational needs in both mainstream and special school
settings.
Through the development of a communications network
(with some of it based on the Internet) the sharing
of resources for supporting this area of education has
been encouraged. The expertise, connections and membership
of the two leading organisations have enabled this project
to effectively progress. These web pages are just part
of the final project which received support from the
DfES SEN small programmes fund.
The CD-ROM of supportive teaching resources from the
project was launched in January 2003. This was circulated
to mainstream secondary schools and made available to
special schools with the Science Enhancement Programme
(SEP) supporting its reproduction and distribution.
An online version of the resources is available within
this website. If you would like your own copy of the
CD-ROM, contact adrianfenton@ase.org.uk
(£5 is charged to cover the costs for distribution).
The outcomes are intended to be of practical use to
the teacher in the classroom. There are positive developments
going on and this is a window of opportunity to share
with others. It has been encouraging to see people meeting
up and discussing their ideas at events and sessions
linked to this project.
There is potential to include greater detail on the
resources listed, case studies of good practice and
more guidelines/resources available to download. Please
share your thoughts and comments.
